March 26, 2021
We have hired Mr. Daniel Holmes as our Lay Pastoral Associate.
His first priority is to rebuild our Religious Education Program.
With assistance from the Diocese of Providence, we are creating a program that students and their families can complete at their own pace and in their own time over the course of each year. Our Catechists will be mentors to the students/families and will help answer any of the questions that might need further explanation.
We will be highlighting:
1) Weekly Mass Attendance and Understanding the Scriptures
2) Prayer and Spiritual Life, the Lives of the Saints, Moral Decision Making
3) Church Teaching: Catecheses
4) Individual Christian Service Projects inspired by the Works of Mercy
We are moving away from a classroom approach and moving in the direction of equiping our students and their families towards lifelong spiritual maturity and growth.
If you have not already received an email from Dan, please contact him ASAP. He is starting with the classes who missed thier sacraments during the pandemic.
ST. MARY SCHOOL OF RELIGION
The Catholic Faith Formation of St. Mary’s Parish, inspired by the love of Jesus Christ, is committed to build a strong Foundation of Faith for the children and youth in the parish. Faith development begins in the home and parents are the primary teachers and models of our faith. The goal of our religious education program is to assist in the development and growth in their faith, bringing about in our children a deeper knowledge and love of Jesus Christ and drawing our young people into a deeper relationship with God through active participation in the life and ministry of the Church.
YEAR-LONG FAITH FORMATION
We will no longer be holding summer sessions. Students and their families will be held responsible for completing the materials and tasks throughout the course of a year. Each family will be assigned a Catechist/Mentor. If you would be interested in being a Catechist/Mentor please contact Dan or Fr. Kris.
WEEKLY MASS ATTENDANCE
Honestly, student Mass attendance has been horendous over the years. Mass Attendance is now the top priority of our Religious Education Program. Please, do not set your child up for failure; set aside either Saturday nights at 5:15PM or Sunday Mornings at 8:00AM or 11:00AM. If you choose not to attend because of the Pandemic, we will find a compromise until the Bishop lifts his Dispensation from Sunday Mass Attendance.
SOLEMN PENANCE AND FIRST EUCHARIST
Sacramental programs for Solemn Penance and First Eucharist are scheduled for students in the second grade. Instruction for Solemn Penance commences in September with celebration of the sacrament in November. Instruction resumes in March for preparation of First Eucharist which is celebrated on the last Sunday in April.
Our Confirmation Program continues as a two year program. Classroom time will be minimal as we expect the students and families to be working at their own pace.
There will be general meetings (post-pandemic) for group building, instruction and celebrations.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is on hold until the pandemic is a thing of the past. We will no longer be taking the children to the basement of the church (for many safety reasons: stairway, no restroom, fire safety, and many times the teacher does not have an adult assistant). We will experiment having our Sunday Children's Liturgy of the Word in the sacristy once/if we start up again.
