Return to Camelot - The Kennedy Wedding
THE KENNEDY WEDDING REMEMBERED
Along with its Gilded Age mansions and famed America’s Cup history, Newport is famously known as the resort city where Jacqueline Bouvier married then Senator John F. Kennedy on September 12, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Spring Street in Newport.
Re-live that special day while watching vintage film clips and enjoying a live performance of music and song from their wedding ceremony and reception at Hammersmith Farm, Jackie’s childhood summer home in Newport.
Their wedding cake was five tiers. Jackie, then 24 years old, wore a gown made of fifty yards of silk taffeta. John and Jackie stood in a receiving line for 3 hours to greet 1,300 wedding guests.
When in Newport, Jackie and JFK attended Sunday mass at St. Mary’s Church until tragedy struck on November 22, 1963, ten years after their wedding.
